This program will explore what is new in the design industry with regards to sustainable products and what companies are doing to implement long-term environmental practices and encourage the use of environmentally sound and eco-friendly products and materials. Four panelists will represent four different materials: wood furniture and systems, broadloom carpeting and carpet tiles, surface materials and paint and wall coverings.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
- Explore product developments in several industries that may utilize renewable resources
- Examine the drivers behind the design and composition of new products or materials?
- Acquire a basic understanding of the chemistry behind furniture and interior finish products, including chemicals of concerns and any tradeoffs between environmental responsibility and durability or quality.
- Recognize opportunities for waste minimization in the shipping, packaging and production of different building materials.
- Explore different indoor air quality standards as they relate to LEED requirements.
