Members in the News – David McGuire, Mary Ostafi, Dave Zimmermann

David McGuire, Vice President of Architecture and Planning at the St. Louis Zoo, was interviewed by KSDK for a piece discussing the Saint Louis Zoo Expansion Project. This project and the opportunity to expand is a result of the Saint Louis Zoo Association’s recent purchase of a 13.5-acre site (formerly Forest Park Hospital) at 6150 Oakland Avenue in the City of St. Louis. The Zoo and its planning team hosted an open house on December 11, 2012  to present information about the planning process and to encourage public input on how the new site could be transformed. This open house is part of a six- to eight-month process. It represents the first step in creating a vision and plan for the Zoo expansion. Click here to access the article.

Mary Ostafi, Sustainability Consultant at HOK, Founding Director of Urban Harvest STL and Chair of the USGBC-MGC Program committee, was featured in a Fox 2 Precious Earth segment on December 11, 2012.  During the interview, Mary discusses Urban Harvest and the FOOD ROOF project, a rooftop community farm in downtown St. Louis.  The mission of Urban Harvest STL is to promote a healthful downtown community, enriching lives through education and innovation in urban agriculture, green space and multicultural connectivity.  Click here to view the interview.

Dave Zimmermann, Sheet Metal Workers Local 36’s Business Manager, was featured in a St. Louis Post Dispatch article on December 9, 2012 which highlighted three new union training facilities in the St. Louis area.  The Sheet Metal Workers, Painters, and Plumbers & Pipefitters unions are utilizing this down time in the economy to ramp up their apprenticeship programs  in preparation for when the economy rebounds.
