Mary Institute and Country Day School captures rainwater in a 10,000 gallon storage tank, where it is held before being utilized in plumbing fixtures throughout the school. This session will begin with an overview of the system and associated resource savings, followed by a discussion of the day-to-day operations/maintenance, then touching upon construction and cost considerations, and end with a tour showcasing the holding tanks. Integration into curriculum will be touched upon as well.

OBJECTIVES:

  • Discuss rainwater harvesting and use within a PK-12 school, including integration into the curriculum.
  • Explore the Mary Institute and Country Day School rainwater harvesting and storage facility, including an overview of the system and associated resource savings.
  • Examine day-to-day operations and maintenance of the rainwater capturing and distribution system.
  • Discuss the construction and cost considerations of this rainwater harvesting system.
