Green Building Experts – Jan Niehaus published in tED magazine

In “The Microgrid Market Gains Power,” author Jan Niehaus forecast the continuing growth of renewable power and both grid-tied and “island” microgrids in response to climate change, power reliability issues, and economic concerns. Experts quoted in her article include Chapter members Marc Lopata, then President of Microgrid Energy, and Nick Arb, Energy Solutions Specialist with Frost Electric.

Congratulations to new Chapter Board Members!

USGBC – Missouri Gateway Chapter Board Elections were held November 6 – 12 and we are pleased to announce the results!

Three elected seats were available. Tim Gaidis and Jen Kissinger were elected. James Dice & Kim Eilerts tied with exactly the same number of votes – a first in USGBC-Missouri Gateway Chapter history! At the Board of Directors’ regular meeting, they determined that both candidates are valuable to the organization and created an additional advisor seat. James Dice will serve in the third elected seat and Kim Eilerts will serve in the Advisor seat.

Congratulations to all! We are excited to have James, Kim, Tim and Jen join the USGBC-Missouri Gateway board in 2015 – 2016.

LEED Green Associate Exam Prep Course – SEMO

Join Southeast Missouri State University’s USGBC Student Group for a LEED Green Associate Exam Prep Course!

Passing the Green Associate exam will allow you to market your knowledge of the preeminent standards in the green building industry, and it is the first step in becoming a LEED Professional.

The LEED Green Associate credential is designed for professionals who want to demonstrate green building expertise in non-technical fields of practice. This credential attests to basic knowledge of green design, construction, and operations.

USGBC-Missouri Gateway’s  two-day LEED Green Associate Exam Prep course is designed to prepare participants for the LEED Green Associate exam.  Course content includes an introduction to USGBC and LEED, LEED v4 Core Concepts, Location and Transportation, Sustainable Sites, Water Efficiency, Energy and Atmosphere, Materials and Resources, Indoor Environmental Quality, Innovation and Regional Priority, Test Taking Tips, & Practice Exam.

PREREQUISITES Students must read and understand the steps needed to enroll for and take the exam.  The instructors will only address this as a broad overview.

PLEASE NOTE This course does not guarantee students will pass the LEED Green Associate exam.  Additional time outside of class will be required for reading the required textbooks.  Registering and taking the LEED Green Associate exam, and any associated costs, are not included in this course.

This course prepares participants for the Green Associate credentialing exam as well as the first part of the LEED AP Specialty credential. The Specialty exams are comprised of two parts: Green Associate & the Specialty.
