2015 Chapter Board Elections – November 6 – 12, 2014

USGBC – Missouri Gateway Chapter Board Elections will take place from Thursday, November 6 through Wednesday, November 12, 2014. In order to vote, you must be a current member of the Chapter.

The candidates are:

  • James Dice, CEM, BEAP, CMVP – Energy Systems Group
  • Kim Eilerts – Thompson Coburn LLC
  • Tim Gaidis, LEED AP BD+C – HOK Group
  • Jennifer Kissinger, LEED AP BD+C – PARIC Corporation

We will elect three individuals to the Board of Director in general positions. These individuals will serve two year terms. The Board will identify from these newly elected members and the existing members the specific officer assignments through Dynamic Elections.

Green Building Experts- Jean Ponzi receives Environmental Stewardship Award

Jean Ponzi received the Missouri Coalition for the Environment’s Leo and Kay Drey Environmental Stewardship Award in October 2013. The award recognized Jean’s years of public environmental education through her professional networks, her role as Green Resources Manager for the the EarthWays Center of the Missouri Botanical Garden, and her 25 years of host and producer of the radio talk show “Earthworms.” MCE’s recognition of Jean stated “Jean’s expertise with energy efficiency, recycling and waste reduction, air quality, native plant landscaping, water conservation, Green building and other practical topics has deeply improved the St. Louis regional community and beyond.”

Sustainapalooza celebrated in the Columbia Tribune

The 2nd annual Sustainapalooza conference organized by USGBC-MGC’s Mid-Missouri Branch and AIA Mid-Missouri featured a fantastic lineup of speakers, including Quint Redmond, co-founder of AgriNETx LLC of Golden, Colorado.

Quint facilitated a design charette aimed at envisioning the integration of agrarianism into the landscape of the Columbia Mall.

The Columbia Tribune spoke with charette attendees, including representatives from the city’s Park and Recreation Department and General Growth Properties, which owns Columbia Mall. Read the full article here.

The U.S. Green Building Council – Missouri Gateway Chapter welcomes new members to come socialize and get acquainted with the Chapter! Chapter officers, past and present, will be on hand to share the chapter’s history, highlight member benefits & opportunities, and answer questions. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet fellow new members while enjoying appetizers, beer and wine.

After new members have learned about the Chapter, they will tour LEED Platinum Certified @4240 building in St. Louis’s Cortex Innovation Community, while learning about the sustainable design, construction and operation features that contributed to their certification.

Honeysuckle Project Art Exhibit Hosted by Maryville University’s USGBC Student Group

Maryville University’s USGBC Student Group will host an art exhibit on Friday, October 17, 2014 from 7-9pm showcasing products made from invasive honeysuckle that has been removed from the campus.

The event will also include a silent auction, with money raised being used for the purchase of replanting native species on Maryville’s campus.

Green Building Experts- Ed Choklek presents at Midwest APPA Conference

At the September 2014 Midwest APPA Conference, a gathering of Higher Education Facilities Officials, Ed Choklek presented in a session titled “To LEED or Not to LEED” on the requirements of several sustainability ratings systems, including LEED and ENERGY STAR. Ed presented on the Energy Star Portfolio Program for colleges and universities and compared LEED 2009 and LEED version 4.

Announcing the 3rd USGBC-Missouri Gateway Photo Contest!

Have a photo of a green building or a sustainable practice to share? Enter the Chapter’s third photo contest!
We’re looking for photos that celebrate the transformation of the built environment into a more environmentally friendly, prosperous, and healthy place to live, work, and learn.

The contest is open to all residents of the Missouri Gateway Chapter territory (territory map). Submissions are due on December 1, 2014 and winners will be announced at the State of the Chapter in January 2015.

First, Second and Third Prizes will include restaurant gift cards, framed prints of the winning photos, a free year of USGBC-Missouri Gateway Chapter membership, and more!
