Click here to view a list of attendees

In addition to the recycled materials used in construction, its many sustainable features – rain gardens, maximized daylight through window placement, a highly efficient HVAC system and other energy-saving devices – earned the Barbara C. Jordan Elementary School the honor of being the first public elementary school in St. Louis to earn Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Certification. The two-story building’s 24 classrooms include specialized classrooms and specialty spaces enabling students to do more exploratory work aiming toward not only a sustainable learning facility but also sustainable learning practices.
